Eventful Weekend

This past weekend mom came to visit, we were super busy and we had tons of fun. Cliff and I had our first baby shower. The shower was beautiful and we received great gifts, thank you to everyone. Cliff's sister Miranda and her husband Kevin made our cake for the shower. They are both talented in this area. I don't know how they come up with such creative ideas.

Miranda and Kevin's cake creation.

Yummy, cake.

Diaper cake (we didn't eat this one).

Punch, anyone!

While my mom was here she helped us finish the nursery. Mom and Cliff painted the remaining parts of the room. The nursery is almost complete, we are still waiting for our dresser and changing table.

Painting Party...It's a Start

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Cliff and I were very busy this weekend. This weekend Cliff and I had a painting party. With the help of Cliff's parents we painted part of the nursery this weekend. We are finally putting the pieces together and getting the room ready for our new little guy. For the nursery we have chosen to paint the walls a tan color "Oregon Coast" and a light blue color "Dreamy Clouds". Three quarters the way up the wall is painted tan and the upper quarter will be painted blue.

Mom is coming to visit in about a week and a half and then at that time the nursery will be complete. Mom is going to paint the upper part blue for us. That is if Cliff can wait that long...he now has the painting bug.

We are so excited to see the nursery come together.

Hay hey hey!!!! Hope this post finds you all doing...

Hay hey hey!!!! Hope this post finds you all doing well. As many of you may know, Shauna and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary today (one of my groomsmen owes me $20). Seriously, everything is going well and between you, me and this world wide interweb Shauna's gettin' hewwwwwwgggge! She has kept her cheery personality and is as beautiful as ever but evidently our little one's a regular at the Major League Baseball Players' pharmacy because he's getting big in a hurry.

Anyhow, as with any pregnancy we're quickly approaching the ritual baby shower. If my little dude could talk he would probably be begging for me to find a way for him to avoid that all-lady gossip fest but, sorry son, you're going to the shower whether you like it or not.

Me? I have absolutely no plans for that evening, which gets me to thinking: what would/could I be doing instead of wasting away--uh--I mean enjoying myself at our baby shower? Let's see:

1. Thinking of baby names
2. Putting together our son's new swing
3. Watching the Astros win
4. Drinking light beer
5. Cleaning the house
6. Walking the dogs
7. Running on the treadmill
8. Drinking regular beer
9. Teaching our dog Bailey to say "Obama"
10. Teaching our other dog Daisey to say "Don't vote for..." before Bailey speaks
11. Eating ice cream
12. Playing basketball
13. Playing freecell on the computer
14. Wondering about the meaning of life
15. Wondering how they get the filling into Combo's snacks
16. Putting together my fantasy football team
17. Feeling the shame of a man willing to freely associate the word "fantasy" with grown men in tight pants
18. Watching the Astros lose
19. Teaching our cat Rusty to arm wrestle
20. Figuring out how to hide the fact that our cat Rusty beat me in arm wrestling
21. Telling the patrons at the backwoods bar down the road that the Aggies do, in fact, suck
22. Downloading songs onto my Ipod
23. Trying to figure out how to organize the 200+ songs on my Ipod that I've never listened to
24. Doing the dishes
25. Dusting off the dishes capable of being passed off as clean and putting them back into the cupboard
26. Telling my neighbor he waters his lawn too much
27. Thinking of what I would name my son if I were a famous Hollywood actor (Soulpatch Cable Outlet Owens is the frontrunner)
28. Eating Shauna's bag of Doritos
29. Running to the store so I can replace Shauna's bag of Doritos before she gets home
30. Figuring out how to explain to my son why he's not as cute as his cousin Olivia (but I bet he has more Texas Tech gear)
31. Going to bed early is definitely the leader right now but I'll let you know.

Shauna's doing well but her battery seems to run shorter and shorter each day. She has, however, cut back on her smoking and drinking (kidding...like any of you have ever seen her do either). We both hope you're all doing well and look forward to our upcoming opportunity to introduce you all to your new family member and friend (and show off all of his Texas Tech gear). Have a great week!

Papa No Habla "Whistle"

Howdy-howdy from the Lone Star state. Everything here remains on that good old status quo freight train. Shauna had another one of her routine doctor checkups today and, we're happy to report, both mother and son are doing fine and remain on course for our date with destiny: August 29th.

According to Shauna's doctor (whose near-decade of schooling obviously more than qualifies her to make her patients wait no less than 90 minutes for her in-demand service) our little guy is facing south. Apparently, his hind-quarters are causing the ruckus on his momma's inner ribcage.

Anyhow, as important as each and every doc's appointment is it was Shauna's return to our homestead that was burned into my impressionable mind. Upon hearing her car enter the garage, nearly a half-hour after I got home, I ducked my head out the window to say "hello". Shauna, always the good soldier, was already on her way to switch the water hose (which I had already turned on) to the second or our two front yard trees.

(Note: all of your mothers out there, please skip the next paragraph.......alright dads, what's the one thing we expectant fathers-to-be immediately tire of? That's right, our little ladies complaining about "how fat" they are. Seriously? You're playing host to another human being right now and 15-20 pounds is unexceptable? It's almost 100 degrees outside AND beer's on sale at our local supermarket. If I don't need someone to roll me off of the couch in a few weeks I'd be surprised).

As I duck my head out the door to say hi to my lovely bride I immediately hear the whistling catcall of one of the (sorry all you Barack supporters) illegal aliens doubling as a construction worker on our soon-to-be neighbor's home. "Wheeeet-whooeeeewwwwwww!!!!!!!" Dyno-mite!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Shauna to death and should never relish her discomfort but, come on, this was awesome! Needless to say, she did not share my enthusiasm.

To make a long story short, I'd like to use this example to reinforce the confidence of pregnant women everwhere. Regardless of how uncomfortable, bloated and unattractive you may feel, trust me, there is a construction worker somewhere who finds you attractive (or whatever the Spanish word for attractive is).

Your's truly,
Dad

P.S. The girls are happy, one of our cats is bald and the Astros are playing much, much better.
